The Youngstown Press Club will honor some of the Mahoning Valley’s most distinguished journalists next month at its Hall of Fame and Awards Dinner.
Five people will be inducted into the club’s Hall of Fame and three others will receive Excellence in Media Award.
The event occurs 5 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 24 at Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown.
The Hall of Fame inductees will be: Marie Cartwright, former vice president of corporate communications for the DeBartolo Corp.; the late Paul C. Jagnow, who was managing editor for news at The Vindicator; the late John Nagy, who was WKBN radio news director; Tony Paglia, former senior regional editor at The Vindicator; and Lisa Solley, former managing editor at the Tribune Chronicle.
Recipients of the Excellence in Media Award will be: Sydney Canty, a news anchor and reporter at WFMJ-TV; Chelsea Simeon, digital executive producer at WKBN-TV and WYTV; and Margie Lenhart, on-air morning show talent on Willie 95.1 radio.
The press club will present its Medal of Merit – an internal award for someone who has made a significant contribution to the club – to Peter H. Milliken, a retired Vindicator reporter.
Also to be recognized are: Nicarlyle Hanchard, Aicha Sawaneh and Emily Wilaj, all Youngstown State University students and winners of the club’s college scholarship; and Lillian Andrews, a Boardman High School student and winner of the club’s Scholastic Journalist of the Year Award.
