Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley will break ground on a new Habitat house at 4 p.m. on Tuesday, March 31. The groundbreaking ceremony for the future homeowner occurs at 2608 Burton St. in Warren.
Some of the expected speakers include Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley Executive Director David Redig, Warren Mayor Doug Franklin, along with Habitat sponsor partners and supporters.
About the project
The Warren house will be home to the most recent Habitat family, who qualified for Habitat for Humanity of Mahoning Valley’s homeownership program earlier this year. They will receive an affordable mortgage through Habitat with a 0% interest rate.
“We are excited to be back helping to build homeownership in the Warren community,” said Redig. “This family has started a journey that includes financial education and homeowner classes. They will put their own time and hard work into the home, truly making it something they can call their own.”
The Warren project began with interest from St. Teresa of Calcutta Parish (St. James), which wanted their congregation to be involved in a community revitalization project. Habitat worked with Trumbull Neighborhood Partnership to acquire the Burton Street lot, which is located across the street from the church.
Support sponsors include the Youngstown/Warren Regional Chamber, Community Foundation of Mahoning Valley, Thomases Family Endowment of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation, Ruth Beecher Charitable Trust and Republic Services Charitable Trust.
Volunteers interested in participating in the Warren build can contact Habitat for Humanity at 330-743-7244 or visit habitatmahoning.org. The home is scheduled to be completed this fall.
