“Jimmy Kimmel Live!” returns to the airwaves tonight – just not in Youngstown. WYTV (Channel 33) is among a number of ABC affiliates opting not to air the late night program.
Sinclair Broadcasting and Nexstar Media Group are two large U.S. media companies choosing not to broadcast the program. WYTV, owned by Vaughan Media, LLC, has sales and shared services agreements with Nexstar Media Group, which owns CBS affiliate WKBN-TV (Channel 27).
In a Sept. 22 post on Twitter/X, Sinclair, Inc. stated: “Beginning Tuesday night, Sinclair will be preempting ‘Jimmy Kimmel Live!’ across our ABC affiliate stations and replacing it with news programming. Discussions with ABC are ongoing as we evaluate the show’s potential return.”
Sinclair-owned stations in Ohio include WSYX in Columbus and WKEF and WRGT in Dayton.
Scripps News Group, which owns WEWS (Cleveland) and WCPO (Cincinnati), is planning to air the program. Gray Television, which owns Toledo ABC affiliate WTVG, has the show on its schedule.
Although area residents won’t be able to see “Jimmy Kimmel Live! on Channel 33, viewers have other options. A number of subscription streaming services are carrying the show, including Hulu, YouTube TV and Fubo.tv…. Viewers can also follow the entertainer on YouTube, Twitter/X, Facebook and Instagram.
