LaBrae senior wins first place in WKBN PSA competition

The WKBN 27 Caring for Our Community campaign is congratulating the winners of the Tom Holden Memorial Scholarship contest.

First-place winner Peyton Smith, a senior at LaBrae High School, was awarded a $1,500 college scholarship for her public-service announcement featuring Lifebanc.

More than 222 students from Mahoning, Trumbull, Columbiana, and Mercer counties wrote commercials for local nonprofit organizations. Smith’s winning script will be produced by WKBN. Viewers can watch it throughout the summer on WKBN 27 and FOX Youngstown.  

The winner and five runners-up will be featured in commercials airing on WKBN throughout May and June.

  • First place: Peyton Smith, a senior at LaBrae High School. Her winning entry featured Lifebanc.
  • Second place: Jennifer Johnson, a senior at LaBrae High School. Her entry featured SMARTS.
  • Third place: Lauren Aiello, a senior at Sharpsville Area High School. Her entry featured Pink Lights the Way.
  • Fourth place: Nora Kurth, a junior at Boardman High School. Her entry featured Animal Charity of Ohio.
  • Fifth place: Talan Ramsey, a senior at Trumbull Career Technical Center. His entry featured The Bair Foundation. 
  • Sixth place: Michael Daley, a junior at Poland Seminary High School. His entry featured Help Network of Northeast Ohio.
