Downtown Warren will transform into a high-energy celebration of all things punk, DIY and community when the Mahoning Valley Punk Flea comes to town Saturday.
The inaugural event will feature art, music, local vendors and community organizations. The Punk Flea runs from noon to 5 p.m.
Organizers are calling the event “part flea market, part music festival and all-out punk experience.”
“Punk Flea is about more than just shopping and music,” said organizer Cory Weddell. “It’s about community—supporting local artists, small businesses, and a nonprofit [Thrive Mahoning Valley] that helps strengthen our Valley.”
Activities
- Vendors/organizations – Artists, makers and community organizations will be set up at the Darlene Lounge, Modern Methods Brewing Co. and The Underground with art, books, vintage, handmade goods and vegan items. Vendors and organizations include the Warren-Trumbull County Library, Thrive Mahoning Valley, Ohio Solidarity Book Exchange, NecroThreads, Fatty Cakes Soap Company, Stroup Sweets, The Art of Matthew Adams, DS Kat and Crow Fine Arts, Bitchy Vegan Homo, Melusina Records and Myth and Stitch.
- Live music – Five bands are scheduled to perform at Modern Methods Brewing Co. (Dave Grohl Alley) and The Underground Lounge (Best Western Hotel). Bands include the Frantic Nancys, Pink Maskerade, Wasted Society, Proud House of Schmucks and the Hazards.
- Haircuts – A donation-based Mohawk Station will keep the punk spirit alive with haircuts by barber Ryan Obertots.
- Exclusive brew – Modern Methods will also feature an exclusive brew during the event. Proceeds will help support Thrive Mahoning Valley, a local nonprofit that strives to connect new and current residents to economic, social and educational opportunities.
