Meijer will collect expired, unused prescription medications on Saturday, Oct. 25 as part of National Prescription Drug Take Back Day.
Store pharmacists will be prepared for an influx of customers to come in and dispose of their unwanted, unused and expired medications.
National Prescription Drug Take Back Day aims to provide a safe, convenient and responsible means of disposing of prescription drugs. Meijer is encouraging its customers to take advantage of the program.
Items not accepted as part of the program include needles or other sharps, inhalers, mercury thermometers, medications that contain iodine and illicit drugs. Assistance is available, if needed.
In April, Meijer customers across the Midwest returned nearly 97,000 pounds or 48 tons of unused/unwanted medications from proper disposal. Stores in the Cleveland market collected over 14,071 pounds of medication on the last drug take back day.
Meijer first participated in the national program in February 2019 and has since collected more than 258 tons of unneeded medications in easily identifiable kiosks near each of its in-store pharmacies.
Customers can access the kiosks year-round for disposal of over the counter and prescription medications, including controlled substances, during normal pharmacy hours, no questions asked.
