LOOP Youngstown Arts + Culture Center is inviting residents of the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to participate in the second annual “A Day in the LOOP,” a community-wide creative project celebrating people, places, and everyday stories.
This year, the project will take place on Friday, Sept. 25. On this single day, participants are encouraged to capture the spirit of our region through photography, video, writing or other art forms, creating a shared snapshot of what life here looks like at this moment in time. Community members are asked to pre-register by Sept. 23 at loopyoungstown.org.
“I enjoyed participating in ‘A Day in the LOOP’ last year,” said Trumbull County resident Daniel Bancroft. “It really showed that there is so much life in our community beyond the headlines on the news.”
A panel of local creatives will select work that represents a slice of life in the Mahoning and Shenango valleys to publish and archive on LOOP Youngstown’s website. This year’s curators are Gail Trunick, a visual artist working in clay and mixed-media sculpture; Katie Passerotti, an educator, author and founder of The Scribbler’s Den; and Vash Penn, a photographer and founder of NEUR NetWorks for Creative Entrepreneurs.
Submissions must be created between 12:01 a.m. and 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 25. Individuals and groups from Mahoning, Columbiana, Trumbull, Mercer and Lawrence counties may submit up to two entries.
“I loved the focus on regional art making,” said Deborah Carl, a 2025 participant. “It was just plain fun!”
