Akron Children’s Mobile Care Unit offers full-service, primary care for pediatric patients from birth to age 21. Walk-ins are welcome.
The Public Library of Youngstown and Mahoning County will host the Akron Children’s Mobile Care Unit on Thursday at Main Library.
The Mobile Care Unit will be available from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Walk-ins are welcome.
The initiative provides full-service, onsite primary care for patients from birth to age 21. Health care ranges from well-child to sick visits.
The traveling unit also features onboard point-of-care lab testing for strep, flu, COVID-19, mono and urinalysis.
The outreach effort seeks to make health care more accessible for families who may not have a regular pediatrician or face transportation challenges.
Overcoming barriers to care
Akron Children’s Hospital and the Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio collaborated on the outreach effort after identifying regional barriers to pediatric care. In response, Ronald McDonald House Charities donated a fully outfitted mobile care vehicle for exclusive use in Mahoning, Trumbull and Columbiana counties.
“At the Library, we believe in connecting our community with the resources they need to thrive,” said Aimee Fifarek, PLYMC Director & CEO. “By partnering with Akron Children’s, we’re helping ensure that families in our community have access to quality health care, right where they live, work and learn,” Fifarek said.
“At Akron Children’s, we know strong community partnerships are key to better health for every child,” said Paul Olivier, vice president of Mahoning Valley Enterprises.
“By working with Ronald McDonald House Charities of Northeast Ohio and local organizations, we’re bringing quality, compassionate care directly to families by removing barriers and ensuring every child has access to the care they deserve,” Olivier added.
