Eastgate Regional Council of Governments is developing a strategy plan for the Middle Mosquito Creek and Lower Mosquito Creek watersheds. Eastgate is currently seeking input from watershed stakeholders – watershed community officials, local businesses, academia, nonprofit groups and the public.
Civil and environmental consultants have developed a public survey to allow stakeholders to provide valuable input. Information from the survey will help identify critical areas within the Hydrologic Unit Code 12 (HUC-12). Stakeholders can access the survey with this link or by using the following QR Code:

Watershed plans are meant to achieve water-resource goals for Mosquito Creek and smaller streams that drain to Mosquito Creek and Mosquito Lake. The basic goals of these plans are to improve water quality in each watershed. Activities include dam removal, reducing sediment and nutrient pollution through land use and conservation practices, managing stormwater and flooding, repairing eroding sections of streams and restoring and protecting wetlands and riparian (stream-side) areas.
Projects that achieve these goals are eligible for certain types of state and federal funding, but they must be included in an approved Nonpoint Source Implementation Strategic Plan (NPS-IS). This survey is intended to solicit feedback on potential locations for restoration and opportunities for protection that could be used to inform the development of feasible projects to pursue funding.
Projects can be on publicly-owned or private lands. Projects on private lands will be matched with an eligible organization for implementation. Grant funds available would help overcome the financial burden and risk of implementation of best management practices or stormwater controls.
