League of Women Voters of Greater Youngstown will honor 17 Mahoning Valley women tomorrow in celebration of Women’s Equality Day.
The nonpartisan political organization will recognize the area women “who exemplify the trailblazing spirit of the suffrage movement” during a Wednesday tea at YWCA Mahoning Valley, 25 W. Rayen Ave., Youngstown. The event occurs from 4-6 p.m.
Honorees include Kim Akins, Marcy Angelo, Susie Beiersdorfer, Sophia L. Buggs, Deborah Cunningham, Stephanie Gilchrist, Leigh A. Greene, Veronica Ann Harpman, Shay Kahani, Shannon Lehn, Leah Merritt, Lisa Ramsey, Roxann Sebest, Patt McGovern Sweeney, Dawn Turnage, Cassandra Valentini and Sarah Wilschek.
Women’s Equality Day commemorates the 1920 adoption of the 19th Amendment, which guaranteed women the constitutional right to vote. The annual celebration honors past wins and the hard work of the suffrage movement.
