‘Mitzvah Day’ will include free haircuts, health screenings and a pop-up store with personal hygiene products, food and basic necessities.
The Jewish Community Relations Council of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation will hold a ‘Mitzvah Day’ event Thursday, Dec. 4 at OCCHA, 3360 Shirley Road, Youngstown.
The program takes place from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m.
The event will include free haircuts, community health information, Mercy Health screenings and a pop-up store with personal-hygiene products, food and basic life necessities.
A Mitzvah, literally, is a commandment in Jewish law. However, it is often used to mean a good deed or an act of kindness, which is an integral part of Jewish life and is the basis for “Mitzvah Day.”
“There are so many wonderful organizations in the Valley doing amazing work,” said Nic Bush, Federation development and community relations manager. “We’re grateful to partner with them to showcase what we, and they, offer for the community. It’s also a chance for community members to experience these benefits all in one place on one day.”
The Jewish Community Relations Council represents the Jewish communities of Mahoning and Trumbull counties and Mercer and Lawrence counties in Pennsylvania to safeguard the rights of Jews here, in Israel, and around the world. It’s an agency of the Youngstown Area Jewish Federation. To learn more, visit jewishyoungstown.org.
