Holiday Flea. DeYor Performing Arts Center/Powers Auditorium, 260 W. Federal St., Youngstown, 44503. Established as an outdoor, open-air vendors market, the Youngstown Flea occurs seasonally (monthly from April to October) next to the Covelli Centre. The “Holiday Flea” is an indoor extension of the outdoor market. The Holiday Flea will bring together over 70 area vendors offering cool and unique items such as jewelry, arts/crafts, antiques, repurposed woods, metals, furniture, vintage clothing and collectibles. It also features music, farmers markets, food trucks and specialty drink vendors. 4-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2.

Christmas in the Square. Courthouse Square Park, downtown Warren and nearby Mahoning Avenue, Warren. This annual holiday event kicks off with a 5:30 p.m. Christmas parade (City Hall) led by Warren pediatrician and parade marshal Dr. John O. Vlad. Master of ceremonies will be Rev. Todd Johnson of Second Baptist Church. Highlights include Letters to Santa; a Christmas market; holiday games for children (Courthouse Square); Candy Cane Lane (Warren-Trumbull County Public Library); cookie decorating; ornament-making; story times, refreshments, nativity displays; a photo booth and movies; horse-drawn wagon rides; vocal music; dance, karate and cheer performances; free family photos with Santa at the Gazebo; free hot chocolate; and designated warming stations. The Warren Trolley will be providing transportation to a number of event locations. The Cookie Walk, which is for ages 2 to 12, begins at 6:30 p.m. Registration is required by checking in at the Information Booth set up in the center of Courthouse Square. The event will conclude with an 8 p.m. tree-lighting ceremony at the corner of W. Market and N. Park where Warren Mayor William D. Franklin will recognize Spirit of Christmas award-winners (comprised of Warren K-8 students). 5-8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1. Free.

Annual Youngstown Holiday Parade & Tree Lighting. Central Square, downtown Youngstown. A parade commences at 6:30 pm. (The route will begin on Federal Street near Commerce and will finish at the end of Federal at Vindicator Square.) The Christmas-tree lighting will occur directly after the parade at 7:30 p.m. – followed by pictures with Santa. The event also will feature family friendly activities, including musical performances by The Vindys; Dueling Pianos at Suzie’s Dogs & Drafts (7:30 p.m.); Youngstown Flea Holiday Sale at the DeYor Performing Arts Center (4-8 p.m., Friday,  Dec. 1 and 9 a.m.-1 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 2); Free admission to OH WOW! (5 to 7:30 p.m.); a Youngstown Phantoms game (7:30 p.m.) at the Covelli Centre; and Youngstown Cinema will screen “The Wizard of Oz” at the McKelvey Gallery/floor three of the Knox Building (8 p.m.). In addition, all five National Endowment for the Arts’ INPLACE Art Installations will be on display. 6:30 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1.

It’s A Wonderful Life. Hopewell Theatre (formerly Victorian Players), 702 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown; 330-746-5455. The Hopewell Theatre will stage its musical version of “It’s a Wonderful Life,” based on the classic 1946 film by Frank Capra. The play tells the story of George Bailey (James McClellan),a desperately frustrated businessman, who wishes he had never been born. Clarence Odbody (Terry Shears), an angel who is trying to earn his wings, is sent to earth to make George’s wish come true. Bailey realizes how many lives he has changed and impacted, and how they would be different if he were never there. This production will be the first ever cross-promotion between the Hopewell Theatre and The Youngstown Playhouse. It’s a Wonderful Life, the Musical is directed by Nick Mulichak, with choreographer Joanna Andrei and musical direction by Ed Phillips. 7:30 p.m., Dec. 1-2, 8-9 and 2 p.m. on Sunday, Dec. 3 and 10.  Tickets are $15 for adults and $12 for seniors and students. Groups of 10 or more receive a discounted rate of $10 per person.

Winter Skywatch. Ward Beecher Planetarium, YSU, Lincoln Avenue at N. Phelps Street, Youngstown, 44502; 330-941-3616. The night sky changes with the seasons, and so does the “Skywatch” program. This live traditional star talk shows the current night sky, constellation lore, and astronomical events. 8 p.m., Friday, Dec. 1.

How The Drag Queen Stole Christmas. Calvin Center, 755 Mahoning Ave., Youngstown, 44502; 330-507-2358. The Rust Belt Theater Company will present its over-the-top retelling of Charles Dickens’ “A Christmas Carol” over three weekends. “How the Drag Queen Stole Christmas” tells the story of Starrlet O’Hara, a tyrant drag queen who is visited by three ghostly divas on Christmas Eve. Written and composed by Robert Dennick Joki and Josh Taylor, the show is updated each year and lampoons politics, current events, and pop culture. The audience will be limited to 100 per show. Performances include a complimentary wine-and-cheese reception and guests can bid on gift certificates and local artwork during a silent auction. 8 p.m., Dec. 1-2, 8-9, 15-17. Additional midnight showings are scheduled for Dec. 9 and Dec. 16. $15.

Tuba Christmas. Stambaugh Auditorium, 1000 Fifth Ave., Youngstown, 44505; 330-747-5175. Tuba Christmas will celebrate its 44th anniversary as tuba players come together and perform a variety of Christmas classics. The various sizes and sounds of the instruments along with the spirit of the musicians make this event extraordinary. The idea for Tuba Christmas was conceived in 1974 by Harvey Phillips as a tribute to his teacher and mentor, William J. Bell, who was born on Christmas Day in 1902. The first Tuba Christmas was conducted by Paul Lavalle in New York City’s Rockefeller Plaza Ice Rink in 1974. In addition, a craft show will be incorporated into the event. Both the craft show and the concert are free and open to the public, but donations will be accepted. 2 p.m., Sunday, Dec. 3.

47th Annual American Holiday Arts & Crafts Show. The Butler Institute of American Art, 524 Wick Ave., Youngstown, 44502. The American Holiday Fine Arts and Crafts Show and Sale, an annual two-day event, is held the first weekend in December. Work is all hand created. This indoor Advent tradition features hundreds of nativity sets from around the world. Local musicians and choirs will perform holiday classics during the event. The Dana School of Music will present its annual holiday music extravaganza, “Carols & Cocoa and the Dana Holiday Concert,” directed by Dr. Hae-Jong Lee, at Carols & Cocoa will be performed first in Stambaugh’s Ballroom featuring seasonal favorites, culminating in a holiday sing-along. Dana School of Music students bring cookies to share, and complimentary cocoa will be available during intermission in the upper lobby before the start of the second concert. The Dana Holiday Concert will then be presented in the Concert Hall including music performed by the Dana Symphonic Choir, Dana Symphony Orchestra, YSU Jazz Ensemble, Dana Chorale, University Chorus, YSU Barbershop Chorus, Flute Ensemble, Clarinet Ensemble, and Trombone Ensemble. The seasonal repertoire features “Many Moods of Christmas, Suite III” by Robert Shaw and Bennett; “Te Deum” by John Rutter; “Sing” by Pentatonic and many more holiday selections. Faculty soloists are Dr. Misook Yun, soprano, Dr. Maria Fenty Denison, mezzo-soprano and Joseph Kromholz, violin. The Lakeview High School Chamber Choir and the Stambaugh Chorus are guest performers.
