Youngstown historian Sean T. Posey will explore the rich and hard-fought history of labor struggles in the Mahoning Valley in “The Fight for Worker Rights in the Mahoning Valley.”

The Mahoning Valley Historical Society’s March “Bites and Bits of History” program occurs at noon on Thursday, March 19.
Community members are invited to bring their lunch to the Tyler History Center’s Thomas Ballroom during this free educational event.
From the major industrial strikes that shaped the region in the early 20th century, to the transformative impact of New Deal labor policies, to the later expansion of unionization into the public sector, the program traces how local workers organized, demanded fair treatment, and influenced national debates about economic justice. Participants will gain insight into an often-neglected aspect of local and American history.
The lecture is the third in a series of lunch-and-learns exploring the Valley’s unique role in Ohio’s and the nation’s history. The program is part of America’s 250th anniversary and Ohio’s official semiquincentennial initiative, “America 250 – Ohio,” which highlights the contributions of Ohio and its communities to the story of the United States.
Bites and Bits of History lunchtime programs are sponsored by the John and Loretta Hynes Foundation.
