WYSU-FM sets holiday schedule | This year offers a mix of local and syndicated programming.
WYSU-FM is announcing its special programming for the holiday season. Broadcasts begin airing Tuesday, Dec. 16 and continue through Christmas Day.
The schedule offers a mix of local and syndicated programs, including ”A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols,” which airs Dec. 24 from the chapel of King’s College in Cambridge, England.

Wednesday, Dec. 24 – Christmas Eve
- Christmas with Madrigalia. Chamber choir Madrigalia and Artistic Director Cary Ratcliff present a concert of traditional carols, anthems and new arrangements to celebrate the winter solstice, Hanukkah and Christmas around the world. 9-10 a.m.
- A Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols. Host Michael Barone presents this live service of spoken-word and music (choral and organ) broadcast from the chapel of King’s College in Cambridge, England. The 30-voice King’s College Choir performs the legendary “Festival of Nine Lessons and Carols” service of Biblical readings and music. 10 a.m.-noon.
- All is Bright. Host Lynne Warfel presents an hour of contemplative choral music that tells the traditional Christmas story. Noon-1 p.m.
- Carols at Home with the Imani Winds. Features a modern take on classic Christmas carols. Hosted by Toyin Spellman-Diaz, Imani Winds founding oboist. 1-2 p.m.
- Classical 24. Music for the holiday season. 2-3 p.m.
- Performance Today. Features live performances of holiday music from around the country. 7-9 p.m.

Thursday, Dec. 25 – Christmas Day
- Welcome Christmas. The perennial Christmas favorite from VocalEssence, one of the world’s premiere choral groups . Features an hour of traditional carols and new discoveries. 9-10 a.m.
- Chanticleer Christmas. Grammy award-winning vocal ensemble Chanticleer is known as the “orchestra of voices” for its unparalleled range and abilities. This season, the ensemble brings a brand-new Christmas program that includes original arrangements of well-known tunes drawn from classical, jazz and popular traditions. 10-11 a.m.

- Pittsburgh Symphony Radio: “Messiah.” Music Director Manfred Honeck leads the Pittsburgh Symphony Orchestra, Mendelssohn Choir of Pittsburgh and soloists in a performance of Handel’s “Messiah.” 11 a.m.-1 p.m.
- Your Classical Christmas Favorites. Features an hour-long holiday special highlighting the top carols based on listener votes. Tom Crann and Valerie Kahler host. 1-3 p.m.
- Performance Today. Live performances of holiday music from around the country. 7-9 p.m.
