Mercy Health hospitals undertake charitable giving events | Holiday raffles, fundraisers benefit respective missions of St. Joseph and St. Elizabeth.

Mercy Health is celebrating this holiday season with charitable giving events that benefit people in the Mahoning Valley.

The annual Festival of Trees returns to all three Mercy Health hospitals, where the public can purchase raffle tickets for a chance to take home a decorated Christmas tree.

In addition, each hospital is collecting gifts in partnership with local organizations to help local families celebrate Christmas. Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital is also hosting the fourth annual Cookie Table, where baked goods can be purchased to benefit Catholic Charities in Youngstown.

To bring the annual Festival of Trees to life, departments in Mercy Health’s three Valley hospitals decorated Christmas trees that are then displayed in each facility. At the conclusion of the event, the trees will be raffled off for winners to take home. Each event is open to the public and raffle tickets can be purchased on-site.

“The holiday season is a time to reflect on love, hope and generosity. As a Catholic health care ministry, we are committed to giving back and supporting those in need within our community. Through the compassion and generosity of so many, we are blessed to make a meaningful difference and share the true spirit of the season,” said Char Gardiner, president, Mercy Health – St. Joseph Warren Hospital.

Giving Trees

St. Joseph partnered with Warren’s St. Vincent DePaul Society this year for its annual Christmas Giving Tree Program. More than 250 gifts were donated to brighten the holidays for local children under the age of 16 who are less fortunate.

Adopt-a-Child Program

St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital and Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital are also celebrating the Feast of St. Elizabeth by supporting the Catholic Charities Adopt-a-Child Program. Both hospitals have “giving trees” on display, where gift tags with wish list items adorn the trees. Hospital employees and visitors can take the gift tags home and return the new, unwrapped gifts to the respective hospitals.

“The holiday season is a time to share joy and compassion with others. At Mercy Health, we are honored to give back to our community and support those in need. Through small acts of kindness and the generosity of many, we reflect the true spirit of the season and bring hope to those around us,” said Genie Aubel, president, Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Boardman Hospital.

Cookie Table

The Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital Cookie Table is the hospital’s annual Christmas giving campaign that supports the good work of Catholic Charities in Youngstown. This charity bake sale honors the Youngstown heritage and serves as a spirit-filled event for our hospital employees and visitors. This year, local bakeries and bakers are donating cookies to support the event, as well as hospital employees also donate baked goods. This event is open to hospital employees, patients and their visitors.

“The holiday season reminds us of the power of generosity, connection and the kindness that defines our community. We are grateful for the many hands and hearts that come together to make a difference through our health care ministry so that we can support those in need and share hope where it’s needed most,” said Kathy Harley, president, Mercy Health – St. Elizabeth Youngstown Hospital.
